Long before Chris joined SilverServers, Mickael had been working on a site called Kamloops Music. The goal of the website was to help promote local music. More recently he decided to try and offer musicians a free platform to help promote their live performances anywhere in Canada and the USA. Chris was thrilled by the idea and they decided to do the project as a special SilverServers development project.
Fast forward to today and the project has listed thousands of shows for thousands of artists across Canada and into the United States. Adding a show can be as easy as answering just a couple of questions. From there, Gigslist will take your band info and find photos on websites like FlickR, draw videos off of YouTube, and pull the music from Soundcloud to fill out your profile instantly and easily.
The guys opted to get the site online before finishing pretty much any of the features - opting instead to build and modify the site "live" so that artists could start using it right away and contribute to the development by providing valuable ideas and ongoing feedback. The response has been great so far. Just this week Mickael and Chris were invited to talk about Gigsli.st with Stan and Hank over the radio on the local rock station 98.3 CIFM in Kamloops.
