Pulse · on watch since 2015
Watching hundreds of services with someone else’s monitoring cost too much, so in 2015 we wrote our own. The first version checked that our servers were online, and told us when they weren’t. Today Pulse also tracks the bandwidth our data centre uses, its temperature and humidity, the addresses attacking our servers, our weekly SEO reports and the PHP errors in our CMS. (Some of us call it Heartbeat.)
Checking silverservers.com from your browser… The one live reading here; the rest is a drawing of what Pulse watches.
Dedicated hosting, explained
Every website lives on a server: a computer that’s always on, sending your pages to whoever visits. What matters is whether that server’s memory and processing power are shared with other websites, or set aside for yours.
Shared hosting
Many websites sit on the same server and draw from the same memory and processing power. When one of them gets busy, the rest slow down. Most low-cost hosting works this way.
Dedicated hosting · every plan here
Your website gets its own memory, storage and processing power, set aside for it alone. Other clients’ sites can’t use them, so their busy days don’t eat into yours.
Every plan here is dedicated. Standard and Plus give your site its own private server (a VM) on our hardware; Advanced Dedicated gives it the whole machine. See the plans
What every plan runs
Every plan runs on all of it, from your server out to the building it sits in.
A private Linux VM with its own RAM, storage and CPU, or on Advanced Dedicated, the whole physical server.
Free certificates, renewed automatically. HTTPS is on from day one, on every plan, never an upsell.
Apache or nginx, PHP and MySQL, configured and patched for you, with FTP and database access on every plan.
Kernel and package updates on a set cadence. When a vulnerability lands, we handle it; it doesn’t wait behind a ticket.
Bargain hosts stop here.
At the box. Everything after this line is in every one of our plans too.
Automated, scheduled backups, kept locally and replicated offsite, restorable to a point in time.
Our own monitoring, running since 2015: uptime, SSL expiry, errors and attack attempts. When something trips, it reaches the people steps from the racks.
Tier II+, 10,000 sq ft and 1 MW of power, with UPS and diesel generator failover and dual 100G fibre. Our team works in the same building.
Switching hosts
The site, where it lives now, and what it needs. Not sure which plan fits? We’ll help you choose.
We create it, allocate its resources, and set up and send your logins. That’s the $50 one-time setup.
We bring the files and database over from your old host, billed for our time. It goes quickly when you can send everything in order.
From day one, Pulse, our own monitoring since 2015, watches your site day and night.

No: every plan is dedicated. Standard and Plus give your site its own private server (a VM) with its own memory, storage and processing power; Advanced Dedicated gives it the whole physical machine. What dedicated means.
As much as your site needs: we size each server to what runs on it. Tell us about yours and we’ll match the plan.
Yes. When your site needs more, we reallocate resources to it, so there’s no migration and nothing for you to move.
Yes, and custom PHP, static builds and Node apps: whatever your site runs on.
Pulse, our own monitoring since 2015, watches it day and night and alerts us, and the people who fix it work steps from the racks.
No. The servers are in Kamloops; our clients are across the Interior, the rest of BC and beyond.
